LPSD Dance Academy

Introducing the LPSD Dance Academy, a unique and groundbreaking initiative set to transform the local landscape of foundational dance skill development for dancers, gymnasts, cheer, synchronized swimmers and figure skaters. As the sole academy of its kind in the Lloydminster and surrounding area, the Dance Academy is dedicated to elevating each student's individual skill set, including strength, flexibility, awareness and artistic expression in a comprehensive 10-month skill development program.

The Dance Academy is specially crafted for middle school students in Grades 6-8, offering a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the disciplined world of ballet. The program is meticulously designed to focus on ballet skill development, providing a thorough grounding in technique and the aesthetic appreciation of this classical dance form.

Central to our mission is enriching our students' lives through dance, aiming to cultivate a deep appreciation for the arts, enhance physical fitness, and instill a set of transferable skills beyond ballet. We believe in nurturing not just the dancer but the individual as a whole, promoting confidence, resilience, and a sense of community.

Our Dance Academy is inclusive and welcoming to all skill levels, from recreational to highly competitive dancers, gymnasts, cheer and/or figure skaters. This program is designed to complement a student's existing training. Each student will receive personalized instruction tailored to their development needs, ensuring progress and growth in both technique and artistic expression. With a focus on accredited examination, our students will have the opportunity to achieve recognized qualifications, marking their achievements and dedication to the discipline of ballet.

Dance Academy applications open on March 1st.

With limited spots, the program may fill up quickly.

“Miss Ryan” has over 35 years of dance education, and seventy-five percent of that has been invested into the knowledge and experience of instructing children and young adults full-time. She believes that dance enhances the lives of youth through teaching awareness and self-discipline, as well as it creates many unique and beneficial opportunities for children, not to mention physical movement and the pure expression of joy.

Ryan adores watching students grow through life lessons taught through quality dance experiences and teaches her students the skill “to strive” as they achieve their personal bests and excel both in and out of the dance room. A Senior Certified Instructor of both the Classical Ballet Progressions of Canada and the ADAPT (Jazz & Tap) Syllabi, as well as Certification in Acro and Progressing Ballet Technique, Ms. Wilson is a strong advocate for safe, consistent, quality dance education.  She graduated with Distinction from the Junior Teacher’s Training Course and spent over a decade working alongside the Edmonton School of Ballet/Vimy Ridge Academy’s Professional Teacher’s Training Program.  Not only did Ryan obtain both her Cecchetti Major’s Dancing Examinations, including her Cecchetti Advanced 1, receiving a mark of Highly Commended as a pre-professional adult, but under the tutelage of Janet Hagisavas, she obtained her Cecchetti Associate CSC-CICB teaching designation.

Ryan grew up dancing in the Vermilion/Lloydminster area but chose to retrain and heighten her dance and teaching skills as an adult. She chose The Edmonton School of Ballet for the high level of technical training it provides to pre-professional and professional dancers through a faculty of unparalleled qualifications and experience.  Their comprehensive teacher training program encompasses theory, practice and experience in a broad range of dance disciplines, ensuring its graduates are well-rounded, internationally qualified dance teachers.  Adult dancers of a pre-professional or professional level audition for and study a full-time 3-year (36 mons) minimum program, which culminates in the exam for the Associate degree in the Cecchetti International Classical Ballet. This teaching credential is recognized internationally and is equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in university in the understanding of how to teach dance alongside all the history, musical notation and pedagogy involved.

Since opening her own studio 24 years ago, “Dance Impressions by Ryan” has become an internationally known Accredited Dance Examination School.  Her students have been able to successfully audition straight out of her programs and gain acceptance into such prestigious programs as Vancouver’s ITP, New York City’s AMDA, Queen’s University Ontario Bachelor of Musical Theatre, as well as have gained entrance into international Teacher Training Programs themselves.  Her students have a history of being chosen for select placement on Team Canada for Tap, Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary and Ballet.  Miss Ryan is sought after as a guest teacher for Summer Dance Intensives, Dance Camps and Workshops, as well as is an experienced and well-rounded adjudicator.  She currently has past students teaching across Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC.

As an innovative, progressive, instructor, she is personally dedicated to life-long learning.  Ryan continues to advance her skills and knowledge through courses and workshops and is so excited to be able to help to develop and deliver this Program to the Lloydminster area.  She fully supports each and every student, teacher and studio owner in the area. She hopes to build a strong support network between the Lloydminster Dance Academy and the existing local dance studios.  She feels the calibre of dancing in Lloydminster is high and is filled with passionate individuals.  She hopes to ignite their passion and enhance their existing training.

Brynn was born and raised in Lloydminster, Alberta. She attended various schools within the Lloydminster Public School Division and graduated with distinction in 2019. She then obtained her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in 2022 and has been working in LPSD ever since.

Throughout Brynn’s childhood and adolescent years, she was a competitive dancer. She has 15 years of experience as a dancer, training in Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, and Lyrical. After graduating high-school, Brynn continued her dance career as a dance instructor for children ages 4 to 17 in competitive programs. She is now in her 5th year instructing.
